Tens of thousands in Tokyo protest nuclear power production
The manifestation is being held under the slogans of “Farewell, nuclear power” and “Let’s protect our land and our children”.
The column is heading for the building of the Tokyo Electric Power Company, - the Fukushima nuclear plant operator, where the organizers are due to hold a 100,000-strong rally. Antinuclear sentiment has flared up in Japan in the wake of the Fukushima plant accident in March last year.
Protests are held in cities on a regular basis, with their organizers collecting signatures to ensure the holding of a referendum on further use of nuclear power.
