BRICS countries warn against slapping sanctions on Syria
The document was put on the UN General Assembly’s table earlier this week. It specifically urges implementation of sanctions against Damascus and the resignation of President Bashar Assad. The voting is scheduled for August 2.
Moscow and Beijing have repeatedly cautioned against slapping sanctions on Damascus, something that they say is unlikely to break the Syrian gridlock.
